In Onorata Dino was never the son of a big time boss, but he was still connected with the mafia. From a young age Dino’s mother sheltered him from his father dirty deeds, but she became so over protective that he was always stuck inside and never allowed to go out. At the dinner table Dino saw a perfect mother and father, albeit they were a little cold to each other, they still loved each other very fiercely in front of him. At night when he would go to bed it always sounded like there was a party going on down stairs and he never understood why he couldn’t join in. His father wanted him to, but his mother held steadfast that he would not get involved in any parties at the age of four.
Finally when he was the age to go to school, and was looking forward to it, his mother refused to send him and instead made his father hire a home tutor. The man his father picked was an older man that was very quiet and had a bad temper if Dino did not do what he was supposed to in the way of homework. He was always punished with a bamboo rod if he stepped out of line or didn’t do his homework much to his mothers dismay. Slowly Dino started to fear the teacher and his mother begged her husband to do something about the treatment.
One day Dino finally came into lessons afraid and sitting there was one of the men he had seen coming into the house after dark when he was being ushered into his room and into his bed. This man was much nicer to him and continued to instruct him, and all was good until his mother saw the man. The fight that night Dino heard his mother yelling about things he had never heard come from her mouth like the words mafia and danger. Brushing these off the twelve year old Dino just continued to do his homework and stay in his room alone and isolated from the outside world. But, things were not going to remain the same for very much longer.
One day Dino’s mother went out with two other women to gather groceries, and she never came back. Dino, having been dependant on his mother for so long was devastated when his father came and told him that his mother would not be coming back, but that because she was gone he could go outside now. Also he was very lenient with Dino and even let him stay up late at night. For a few weeks the shock of his mother’s death kept Dino in his room as usual, until one day his new teacher took him out to go eat.
Seeing all the things he had missed, Dino slowly was able to go out a little more and stay out and explore. Of course his father never let his teacher let him go alone and because his mother had simply not returned, for a while Dino searched for her and gave up after a heated fight with his father. Still, for as bright as Dino was the real shock came when he was around thirteen and an argument broke out with his father and he left the house by himself.
That night he wandered around as usual, but something was different when he returned. No one came after him and nothing was done about him running out of the house in such a disrespectful manner. When he returned home it was very late, around 2 to 3 A.M and he snuck in towards his room and heard his father talking with a man about his mother. Having grabbed his attention he listened in on the conversation and couldn’t believe what he heard being said.
His father had gotten tired of Dino being locked away and as successor to the small family he had and since his wife was the obstacle of this, he had hired a hitman to come in and kill her. He didn’t have to say all this for Dino to know when he handed the other man money and said, “Thank you for ridding me of the meddling bitch.” Stumbling backwards from the door Dino ran right into his teacher and turned to the man who grabbed him by the arm and immediately led him out of the house.
Dino didn’t object to being taken by the man out of his house. He never once looked back and continued on as his teacher led him through the steps of grabbing a passport on the black market and then whisked the young boy to a place where his father could not find him, Japan. When he was taken there the man explained everything about the Mafia and about the Cavallone family to Dino and Dino found himself getting angrier and more hateful towards his father, so much that the teacher worried about him trying to take revenge too soon.
So in order to negate the anger and hatred building inside Dino his teacher took him to Japan in order to try and calm the boys nerves and to make sure that his life was not wasted unnecessarily, because this man was more loyal to his mothers memory than his father. Dino was enrolled in school and it was quickly apparent that he was a foreigner and not very social, so he was left alone to stew in his hatred and loathing of his father, until one day a boy approached him in class.
It took a while for Dino to actually open up and become friends with this boy, but he always knew one day that he would have to go back to Italy. He continued to make that known to the boy, but the boy just laughed aloud and always promised to go back with him. So, for the first time in his life he had a friend and he was grateful for that and so was his teacher. The hate had subsided, but every day Dino would promise to avenge his mother’s death, and the mantra finally paid off when he heard about the split and two mafia families that had emerged. People were taking sides.
Asking his teacher for help to figure out where his father sided, Dino got ready to graduate and his friendship with the one male had progressed to where he had to apply to a college to be able to go back. In the time that he was applying and he was getting his affairs in order his teacher started to teach him how to use a whip and other weapons that would be beneficial later, but he always stopped and let Dino have his time to grow up and have fun with his friend.
Going back to Italy Dino took his friend with him reluctantly and sided against his father and the Vescovo by turning and going with the Monacello. Thus the Cavallone name was split between the two factions; a father with ambition and the blood to be a Vescovo, and Dino the talent and hatred that qualified him to be accepted and closely watched by the Monacello. Dino’s own skills with the whip were above excellent for the time he had with it and in melee combat he could adapt easily.
After serving for four years with the Monacello and proving that he wasn’t going to run to the Vescovo, Dino’s teacher sat down and had a talk with him. The talk was about his mother and her death, and the fact that Dino’s real father was not the man who had raised him, but was indeed the teacher himself. With this it gave Dino more reason to go against the man that had taken so much from him at such an early age. Finally getting the go ahead Dino dropped off the radar completely and only operated within the Monacello when called upon for a task.
Dino had turned from a gentle caring person into a more guarded, quiet and dangerous person when angered and he didn’t want to get his special friend involved or harmed because of it. . He went as far as to have his teacher approach his friend and say that he was dead. But, he stops by the others shop to check on him quietly every once and a while without really going in. There is too much for him to do right now, one day maybe he can go back to him.
